First things first, the CCFL tubes had to go!<\/p>\n \n\t\t

In with the new…<\/h2>\n

We decided to bite the bullet and order\u00a040 meters of white 5050 LED strip. When it arrived the build began. Considering the current requirements for the amount of LED strip we were planning on using (~36 meters), we decided on a 24v rail for LED power. This meant each 12v LED strip would be placed in series with another. So we got to soldering them in pairs like so:<\/p>\n \n\t\t

We tied these all the way down to keep spacing and evening lighting from one end to the other. Next stage was to stick them down using the CCFL tube mount holes as a guide.<\/p>\n \n\t\t

Ends terminated and stuck down with hot glue. Half way through, time for a pose and a coffee..<\/p>\n \n\t\t

Done! Next time for some power! For dimming, it worked out cheaper to buy pre-made 24v tolerant LED strip amplifiers, so that’s what we did! We grouped\u00a0these up to drive 4 strips each.<\/p>\n \n\t\t

Keep the nice chunky current rich power supply cable nice\u00a0and low resistance by stripping away the insulation and tagging to it rather than cutting \ud83d\ude42 (Don’t worry that cable is already overkill!)<\/p>\n \n\t\t
